Cirque du Solee

Our baby is one! We celebrated Solee's special day in style!

I decided on a circus theme long ago, mostly because I love cotton candy. It wasn't until a ways down the planning road that I realized Solee's name would make for a great play on words of the famous Cirque du Soleil. Score! Glad we named our baby Solee!

Anyway, let's start with the cute invitation.

I have to explain it because, like Shay so kindly pointed out, no one would ever know that the font I chose closely matches that of the actual Cirque du Soleil. I put in WAY too much time trying to find a font that matched. But I did, and I think they turned out cute!

Now to the party. The photos were all taken by my friend Jen (Jen Hazen Photography) so they turned out super cute.

The party was suppose  to go as follows: The guests would arrive and be greeted by the invigorated host (myself), be given a goodie bag along with their tickets, play the Guess How Many Candies are in the Jars game, get their pictures taken in front of the backdrop using the "Funny Foto" props, and then munch on the delicious, already prepared carnival grub.

In reality the first several guests were greeted by a frazzled host trying to finish up begin preparing the food, finish decorating, and finish picking up the house. My darling friends came to the rescue and helped me decorate. I didn't get all the decorations out and my kitchen wasn't clean to my standards, but oh well. Shay prepped all the food while everyone went outside to play.

I set up a few carnival inspired games that some of the older neighborhood kids helped facilitate. We had Ring Toss, Spill the Cans and Bean Bag Toss. The kids could win a maximum of four tickets to be redeemed for awesome prizes and then could win as much candy and temporary tattoos their little hearts desired.

I also hired a clown to tie balloons and had a friend/ face-painter extraordinaire paint the kiddos faces.

After loads of play, everyone was ready to eat the finally prepared food. We didn't end up getting the corn on the cob cooked, but none of the really unhealthy stuff was forgotten, so I think it was a carni-food success.

After lunch we played Pin the Nose on the Clown and the kids got to claim the candy from their individual piƱata pullers.

By this point Solee was snoozing with her friend, Mylie.

I let her sleep for awhile, but had to wake her up to sing Happy Birthday and let her have her way with her Smash Cake. Her way wouldn't have any smashing. She just stared and gave the choir dirty looks. There'll be no sleeping through this party, Girlie!

The rest of us were for eating cake, though!

After cake, the kids cashed in their tickets for the prizes. They chose from popcorn, cotton candy, Circus Animal Crackers, pinwheels, clown marshmallow suckers, Cracker Jacks and a live (at least for the time being) goldfish. I meant to give them each a balloon as well, but forgot.

Next Solee got to open her presents. She was awake for this! She was totally spoiled and loved her gifts.

Happy 1st birthday my lovey baby! I love you, you little clown!

If you would like your own circus, check out this post here. And here are some additional pics because they are all so fun!
